Promotion: Dental Laboratory Technology

An effort to promote and increase the visibility of careers in dental laboratory technology is underway. The need to increase the number of individuals entering this field is based on several factors including the combined effect of a continuing decline in the number of dental laboratory technicians as well as a decline in the number of ADA accredited dental laboratory technology education programs. The "low visibility" of this career area by the general public is also a contributing factor.

Due to these factors, resources and materials promoting careers in dental laboratory technology have been developed consisting of a CD-ROM, fact sheet, poster, brochure and tabletop display. Complimentary copies of these new resources have been distributed to constituent and component dental societies. A newly completed video promoting dental laboratory technology as a career is the latest addition to the resources and is available in the Your Oral Health Educators section.

Member dentists and others are encouraged to include dental laboratory technology resources in all career recruitment and promotional efforts. As part of this promotional effort, information will be forthcoming highlighting innovative dental society strategies promoting dental laboratory technology.

Further information about these career resources and other resources is also available at http://www.ada.org/goto/careers.
