United Airlines

Take advantage of special ADA discounted convention airfares available on United Airlines for travel to San Antonio! You can make your Annual Session travel reservations directly with United Airlines without paying a service fee by one of the following methods:

Online Discount: Receive a 5% discount off United’s already low fares when making your reservation online.

  • On the www.ual.com home page, complete the Book Travel section on the left-hand side.
  • Click on More Search Options and enter 523RH in the “Electronic certificate or promotion code” box (note: RH is case-sensitive).
  • United will then display the available flights based on your requests. Flights that qualify for the discount will be clearly identified with a green star.
  • United will automatically calculate and present your discounted fare.
  • Select your flights and you will be prompted to log-in as a registered user or as a guest.
  • Complete the purchase of your airline tickets by following the easy steps.
  • Note that www.ual.com does not currently charge a service fee for making travel reservations.

Telephone Discount: Take advantage of the discount and support the ADA by referencing the United ID number. We recommend booking early to receive the greatest discount off the lowest applicable fares. Receive a 2-10% discount off applicable fares including First Class. Purchase your ticket at least 30 days prior to travel and receive an additional 5% discount off select fares.

  • Call (or have your travel agent call) United’s Special Meeting Desk at 1-800-521-4041 and refer to meeting ID number 523RH.
  • This special offer applies to travel on domestic segments of all United Airlines, United Express, TED and United code share flights operated by US Airways, US Airways Express and Air Canada.
  • There are no fees for meeting attendees who make their reservations through the Special Meeting Desk at 1-800-521-4041 and use special code 523RH.

Delta Airlines

Delta Air Lines is an official airline for the ADA in 2008. Delta is offering discounted travel reservations only when made through this website: Delta.com For Business Travel.

Delta is offering a 5% discount off select economy fares (discount does not apply to Delta's lowest fares).  In addition, Delta offers a 10% discount off select First Class fares. These discounted reservations include the following additional benefits:

  • No service fees
  • Check-in online 24 hours prior to departure

Amtrak

Amtrak offers a 10% discount off the lowest available rail fare to San Antonio between October 13, 2008 and October 24, 2008. Convention reservations cannot be made via the Internet. Please be sure to refer to Convention Fare Code X92R-932 when making your reservation. This offer is not valid on the Auto Train. Fare is valid on Amtrak Regional and Acela service for all departures, 7 days a week. Offer valid with Sleepers, Business Class or First Class seats with payment of the full applicable accommodation charges.

Car Rental

  • Meeting rates are available one week before through one week after the ADA Annual Session dates and are subject to car availability.
  • Standard rental conditions and qualifications apply.
  • At the time of reservation, the meeting rates will be automatically compared to other Hertz rates and the best comparable rate available will be quoted.

Airport Transportation

San Antonio Airport Shuttle

Airport Express—SATrans operates the official airport shuttle for the San Antonio International Airport. Shuttles run daily between 7am and 1:30am between the airport and downtown hotels. Between the airport and downtown hotels the rate is $16 each way with a round-trip purchase and $18 for a one-way ticket. Save $2.00 on a one-way ticket or round-trip ticket by printing a free discount coupon at www.saairportshuttle.com. Prices/offer subject to change without notice. Shuttle tickets are sold curbside, outside the baggage claim area, at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Shuttles depart for downtown hotels approximately every 15 minutes.

City Bus Service

VIA METROPOLITAN TRANSIT—San Antonio’s VIA bus company offers rides to downtown for about $1.00 Monday through Sunday. Exact change is recommended. See Ground Transportation Agents at the curbsides of each terminal for transportation schedules. The bus pick-up area is located at the outer curb, center island, across from Terminal 2 baggage claim.

Limousine Service

San Antonio is fortunate to have many excellent limousine companies. Elegant Limousine & Charter is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help with your transportation needs in San Antonio. Lincoln Town Cars, vans, SUV’s, mini-buses, etc. are available to meet your needs. Rates start at $72.50 for a car (2 person maximum), and $87.50 for a van (8 person maximum). Driver gratuity is included.

Taxi Service

Taxis are available at the lower level curbside, outside of baggage claim, at Terminal 1 and at the front curbside of Terminal 2, just outside baggage claim. For assistance, please contact the Airport Ground Transportation Agent wearing an airport badge. Fares to San Antonio downtown areas are approximately $18 to $20 (U.S.) per taxicab. (Up to four people may share a cab.)

ADA Shuttle Pass

Book your hotel reservations through the ADA and receive a shuttle pass with your registration materials. Shuttles are provided for hotels not within walking distance with the exception of the Westin La Cantera and Hyatt Hill Country Resorts in the San Antonio Hill Country area. Check the 2008 ADA Official Hotels map and amenity grid to see which hotels have shuttle service.

Explore San Antonio Hotels

The ADA has arranged for specially priced hotel rooms for the 2008 Annual Session. Select from a wide variety of hotels at discounted rates, ranging from historic and boutique to major chains.

Additionally, the ADA is now offering extended evening shuttle service on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-18.  The last shuttle will depart the convention center at 9:30 p.m. with service to all surrounding area hotels, identified as such on the ADA Official Hotels Map.

Parking in San Antonio

Parking garages in San Antonio charge rates starting at $10 a day, but keep in mind downtown lots near the Convention Center tend to fill.  ADA attendees have an option of parking at the Alamodome, the location for the ADA General Sessions & Distinguished Speaker Series, in Lot C.  Alamodome parking is available for $10 a day and is just minutes away from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Attendees may walk to the Convention Center using the convenient Alamodome walkway or take the shuttle transportation available Thursday, October 16 - Sunday, October 19 during regular shuttle hours. Pick up the Official Guide on-site at the convention center and see page 17 or page 32 for more information on the Alamodome walkway.

Book an ADA Tour

Come and explore San Antonio! Known as the home of the Alamo and the River Walk, San Antonio hosts a vibrant mix of culture, cuisine, architecture, moving history and patriotism – not to mention diverse languages and music.

The tour program for the 2008 Annual Session samples a little bit of everything this amazing city has to offer:

  • Those interested in history will be amazed at the stories San Antonio has to tell, from the Menger Hotel where Teddy Roosevelt recruited many of his “Rough Riders,” to the city’s beautiful historic missions.
  • Art lovers can see glass-blowing in action, experience masterpieces at one of San Antonio’s renowned museums, or contemplate the contemporary at the Blue Star Arts Complex.
  • Cuisine and wine are hot topics and there’s something for everyone, with choices from “Tortillas 101” to explorations of several local vineyards. Learn to make the “Perfect Margarita!”
  • For adventure lovers, enjoy a day of zip-lining, fly-fishing or skeet-shooting. You can take a rafting trip down the Guadalupe River or simply wake up each morning with a stroll on the Riverwalk.
  • And for the ghost hunters among us, there’s a tour just for you!
  • If shopping is your bag, San Antonio is the place. This city offers everything from local artisan shops to outlet malls holding bargains by the score. Tour them all!

The deadline for advance tour ticket purchase is Friday, September 19, 2008. Tour tickets will also be available for purchase on-site during registration hours for any tour that still has space available. The Tour Ticket Sales Desk is located at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Ballroom A.

Reserve Childcare at the Annual Session

ADA Children’s Program Overview

For the 12th consecutive year, ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements, Inc. has planned an exciting activity center for the children of ADA attendees. ACCENT is a nationally recognized professional childcare company organized to provide on-site children’s activities in a nurturing, safe and educational environment. ADA Kid’s Camp is conveniently located at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio Bonham Rooms, Level 3. Daily activity themes such as “Everything Is Bigger in Texas” and “Remember the Alamo” will reinforce the children’s experience in San Antonio in an educational setting. With arts and crafts activities, active games and special guests, ADA Kid’s Camp is sure to be great entertainment for all ages.

Advance ADA Kid’s Camp registration deadline is Friday, October 10. Advance registration is critical to reserve your child’s space at ADA Kid’s Camp. To give everyone the opportunity to enjoy this program, please only register your child/children for the time you plan to utilize. Submit the ADA Kid’s Camp registration form online, by fax or by mail.

ADA Kid’s Camp welcomes children ages 6 months to 12 years. All of ACCENT’s counselors are fun-loving professionals who will provide excellent care for your children. ACCENT provides an exceptional caregiver to child ratio:
1:2 for children 6-12 months of age
1:3 for children 12-36 months of age
1:5 for children 3-5 years of age
1:8 for children 6-12 years of age

Evening Care

Evening care can be arranged through ACCENT for any child registered in the Kid’s Camp daytime program. An additional fee and a three-hour minimum are required. CAMPanion Caregivers are licensed, bonded, insured, CPR certified and first-aid infant/child certified. Care can also be arranged in the attendee’s hotel room for any evening. If you wish to receive additional information on evening care arranged by ACCENT, please check the appropriate box on the Kid’s Camp registration form and ACCENT will contact you. If you wish to arrange evening care on your own, most hotel concierge desks will have information on local services available.

ADA Kid’s Camp Tour Descriptions

Kid’s Camp tours are designed to satisfy a child’s curiosity and never–ending quest for adventure and fun. Children must be registered for Kid’s Camp on the day the tour occurs. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve a spot as soon as possible!

San Antonio Children’s Museum and the Alamo
Friday, October 17, 2008
9am– 3pm; $35.00

We’ll start our day by visiting the San Antonio Children’s Museum to learn about the wonders and marvels of science, our body and the world around us. Create thunderstorms and explore underground caves at the “Texas Treasure Cave &Wild Texas Spring” exhibit or learn facts about our teeth and what it would be like to be a dentist at the “Tooth Booth.” Ride the kid-powered elevator, learn how your skeleton moves when you ride a bike and much more! We’ll walk over to the nearby Hemisfair Park, where we’ll eat a picnic lunch before setting off to one of our country’s most unforgettable sites—the Alamo. Remember the bravery of Davy Crockett, James Bowie and many others as we tour the historic battlegrounds and beautiful gardens.

“Remember the Alamo!” Lunch is included.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch
Saturday, October 18, 2008
9am– 3pm; $35.00

Today, we’ll voyage across the oceans and experience the wilderness of the African savannah, Australian Outback and other natural areas right here in Texas as we journey through the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch.We’ll have up-close and personal encounters with over 50 species of animals, such as zebras, ostriches and llamas, from the comfort of our tour bus. You’ll have the opportunity to see, photograph and even feed many of the animals.We’ll also take a walking safari where we’ll greet the giraffes and talk to the macaws, stopping for a picnic lunch beneath the trees. After lunch, we’ll head to the Longneck Learning Center, also the giraffes’home, for a fun and educational presentation and perhaps even a visit from our long-necked friends! Lunch is included.

Registration

Registering for Kid’s Camp does not register your child for the ADA Annual Session, nor does registering your child for the ADA Annual Session register him or her for Kid’s Camp. In order to obtain an ADA Annual Session badge for your child, you must register your child in the “Friends and Family” category on the Advance Registration and Housing form. Registration for children under 18 years of age at the ADA Annual Session is complimentary.

Fees

All fees are required at the time of registration. Parents have the option of purchasing lunch and field trip tickets for an additional fee.

$35 per child per field trip fee (optional activity)
$20 per child daily lunch fee (optional; parents may bring lunch for their children)

On-site Registration

Although every effort will be made to accommodate on-site registration, there is no guarantee that children will be accepted unless they are registered in advance. ACCENT will accept on-site registrations based on the number of children who can be safely accommodated with staffing and space availability. There may be additional fees for on-site registration.

Cancellations

Processing fees are non-refundable. Daycare, field trip and lunch fees are refundable for cancellations received in writing to ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements, Inc. by 5pm Central Time on Friday, October 10.

Know Your Dining Options

Grab-and-Go Gourmet Lunches at the Convention Center

Save time and avoid lines by pre-ordering a fresh, delicious Grab-and-Go gourmet boxed lunch when you register for the Annual Session. This convenient option costs only $8.00 and gives you more time to explore the World Marketplace, network with peers and catch up with friends.

Each lunch features a sandwich, chips, a homemade dessert and choice of soda or bottled water. Different options are available daily. You may view each day's choices when you register online, or on the registration form.

There is no limit to the number of lunch tickets for Grab-and-Go lunches you may purchase with registration. Tickets purchased before Sept. 12 will be included with your registration materials.

Grab-and-Go lunch orders are optional. A variety of food concessions will be available throughout the convention center.
